Disaster Strikes Save Your Life Then Save Your Data!

Kroll Ontrack in the US is offering a free diagnosis together with $850 flat rate for data recovery of all desktops, laptops and USBs that are affected by natural disasters. This initiative is in response to flooding across various districts including Missouri, Illinois, Texas and many other Midwest and Southern states.

This news reminded me that Asean countries are particularly prone to natural disasters and whilst your priority should be safety, thinking about safeguarding your data should be also considered. When disaster strikes, natural instinct tells you to save your life first rather than saving gadgets, smart phones or laptops and that is how it should be. But in the aftermath you may be left with a situation where data has been lost or compromised. In such instances it will come down to professional companies like Kroll to help you recover.

I am not recommending that people lapse on their backup, but when all else fails we still need to look at Data Recovery expertise.

Quoting Kroll directly from that US press release makes the point very clear.

"Heavy storms, tornados and flooding can be extremely devastating for businesses and individuals, at times resulting in the loss and personal or business property, including data loss when digital devices are damaged or become non-functioning,” said Todd Johnson, vice president, data and storage technologies, Kroll Ontrack. "While many possessions can be replaced and are usually covered by insurance, the same cannot be said for digital data. Kroll Ontrack has been helping victims of natural disasters recover their important and sentimental data for 30 years."

In a nutshell, Asean countries are prone to natural disasters. Ideally we should be more prepared than most when it comes to being ready for natural disasters. However, we cannot always plan for every unexpected disaster, and in those cases it is important to remember that experts like Kroll exist to help us when the worst happens.
